Following the unprecedented success of MTV’s reality show The Osbournes, it seems other celebrities are clamoring at the chance to do the same.
The Osbournes shows the daily lives of Ozzy Osbourne, the self-proclaimed “bleeping Prince of Darkness,” his wife, Sharon, and two of their children, Jack and Kelly. The show proved to be the biggest hit series in MTV’s 21-year history and became the most-watched series on basic cable.
Now it seems Cybill Shepherd, Courtney Love, Brandy, Sean “P. Diddy” Combs and David Lee Roth all want to follow in Ozzy‘s footsteps.
Shepherd, 52, told The New York Times: “I want my own reality show. You could see me in the tub, but you won’t see me naked or anything.” The actress joked that the “mockumentary” would be a cross between Sex and the City and Sunset Boulevard.
Other stars, however, are taking the prospect of their own reality shows more seriously.
Former Van Halen lead singer Roth videotaped a recent backyard barbecue and sent copies to his friends in the press, suggesting he may be the next Ozzy, according to the Times.
Rap mogul Combs, meanwhile, is in talks with MTV to have his search for new talent recorded, while singer Brandy is in discussions with the network to have a show based on her pregnancy and upcoming birth, tentatively titled Making the Baby.
The paper also reported that Love has been in negotiations with MTV to appear on MTV2, the network’s sister channel, to do a reality-based show. But an executive for MTV who would speak only on the condition of anonymity said he was skeptical of her potential success as a reality star because she would probably not allow the kind of intimate access the Osbournes have.
