Why did Mel sell?

Viacom Chairman Sumner Redstone is said to be upset by Viacom President Mel Karmazin’s decision to sell 15 percent of his shares in the company, the New York Times reported Tuesday, citing a person close to the company. Karmazin’s action, the newspaper commented, has raised “the eyebrows of some investors, who wondered if Mr. Karmazin was losing faith in the stock’s growth potential.” It quoted one unnamed analyst as saying, “This is the guy who, last August, was arguing that when Viacom’s stock was at $74, it was really worth $100 a share and that it was extremely undervalued.” Viacom closed Monday at $50.24.
