Witherspoon movie facing re-edit for Christmas

Columbia Pictures executives had hoped the romantic comedy, also starring Paul Rudd and Owen Wilson, would be given a PG-13 rating to allow teenagers to see the film over the festive season (10).

Last week (ends14Nov10), officials at America’s Classification and Rating Appeals Board upheld the original R-rating, which would mean anyone aged 17 years old and under would need to be accompanied by an adult.

The ruling came because the word ‘f**k’ is used three times in the film – while usually only one use of the expletive is allowed in a PG-13.

Movie chiefs are now heading back to the editing suite to re-cut the movie in time for its intended 17 December (10) release in the U.S., according to Variety.com.
