Growing up in Alaska with her musician parents, Jewel has been touring since she was a child. Her sound has matured from simple acoustic-folk tunes to the pop-dance beats found on her fifth and latest album, 0304. The controversial new image she presented fans in the music video for her latest single, “Intuition,” may have cost her some of her oldest listeners, but it seems like the price was worth paying: her latest album has been topping the charts.

Movie Tunes:

Jewel‘s songs have appeared on the soundtracks of Sweet Home Alabama, I Shot Andy Warhol, The Craft and Phenomenon. She made her first movie appearance in Ang Lee‘s Ride With the Devil (1999), and she’ll be appearing in the upcoming Standing Still, due out later this year and starring James Van Der Beek and Ryan Reynolds, among others. Meanwhile, JewelJK.com reports that Jewel‘s credentials extend to her very own film production company, Magic Lantern Entertainment. The company recently acquired its first feature film script, David Rothmiller’s Wave. Jewel is slated to star, although there’s reportedly a strong ensemble cast.
