Special Talents:

Singer, songwriter, guitar player, actress, kabbalist

Style File:

With more experience than any other actor and/or singer on our list, Madonna has made 15 albums, and every one of them is different. She’s the goddess of reinvention, which makes it hard to classify her style–or her music. This time out on American Life, released April 22, she mixes techno/dance beats with some acoustic numbers.

Movie Tunes:

Most of Madonna‘s biggest hits have been movie- or soundtrack-related, beginning with the 1985 hit “Crazy for You” from Vision Quest. Madonna also played a bar band singer in that film. Her first leading role came that same year–and she became the icon we all know and love in Desperately Seeking Susan. By 1992 Madonna was well established in Hollywood with her own production company, Maverick. In 1996, Madonna starred as the title character in the musical Evita opposite Antonio Banderas, and received her first ever award for good acting–a Golden Globe for best actress in a musical or comedy. (Madonna had previously received two “Razzies” for her acting in Shanghai Surprise and Who’s That Girl?.) Madonna has also had songs–with varying degrees of success–on a number of movie soundtracks, including: Austin Powers: The Spy Who Shagged Me, Die Another Day, The Next Best Thing, Dick Tracy and A League of Their Own. Madonna also appeared in Madonna – Truth or Dare, Swept Away, Four Rooms, Shadows and Fog, Body of Evidence, Dangerous Game, Girl 6, A Certain Sacrifice and Bloodhounds of Broadway.
