The second week of 2006 was decidedly a Hostel environment. The Tarantino-endorsed, vomit-inducing gore kaleidoscope was the week’s biggest mover of Hollywood.com’s most-searched terms. Granted, no person or film approached the prowess of search queens Pamela Anderson and Jessica Simpson (in the top two spots), but Hostel is surging!
Steven Spielberg’s Munich held strong at No. 3 (despite getting largely ignored in the Golden Globes race)—as did Ang Lee’s critical and GLAAD darling Brokeback Mountain at No. 5. An eagerly expecting Katie Holmes moved up a few spots to No. 4.
King Kong came in at No. 6, just ahead of the aforementioned Hostel, but the film’s starting to resemble its eponymous beast’s decline down the Empire State Building. Falling with the Big Ape is its chief box-office rival (until Hostel came around, of course), The Chronicles of Narnia (No. 8), which also is beginning to slip. The gals on top might face some competition in next week’s rankings from Angelina Jolie (No. 9). The A-lister of all A-listers recently announced her pregnancy, creating quite a stir. Rounding out the top 10 was mainstay Cameron Diaz because, uh, she’s pretty?
Finally, last week’s biggest fall: Paris Hilton (No. 21). Which could only mean one thing: Nobody chastised her all week.
