Zendaya joins Spider-Man reboot

Singer/actress Zendaya Coleman has reportedly landed a role in the new Spider-Man reboot.
British actor Tom Holland was revealed as Andrew Garfield’s replacement in the superhero franchise in June (15). Jon Watts is directing the film and he has reportedly cast Zendaya as a character named Michelle.
Further details about Zendaya’s role have not been revealed and it is unclear if she will play Holland’s romantic interest or sidekick in the project.
Tom will make his debut as Peter Parker and his alter-ego in Captain America: Civil War in May (16), before his stand-alone Spider-Man reboot is released in 2017.
He was cast as the web-slinging superhero last June (15), after studio bosses at Sony Pictures decided to ditch plans to continue with Garfield as the comic book character in further follow-ups to 2012’s The Amazing Spider-Man and its sequel, and start the movies again.
Tobey Maguire had also donned the skin-tight red and blue bodysuit to star in the original Sam Raimi Spider-Man films in the early 2000s, and Tom previously revealed he was hoping to meet his predecessors before filming on the latest blockbuster series begins.
“It’s something I think should happen,” he told Access Hollywood last year (15). “I’d love to sort of sit down with them and ask them about what to expect in life.. As of yet, I haven’t sort of touched based with them, I’m sure I will in the future.”
The Impossible star has already had to deal with heavy criticism following his casting, but he was unfazed by the backlash.
“Everyone is entitled to their own opinion and it just gives me more motivation to prove them wrong when I do start shooting the movie,” he told Variety. “Hopefully I will.”
