Louisville Movie Theaters: Sauerbeck Family Drive-In

Need a break from the city? Drive about 30 minutes out of Louisville to La Grange, Kentucky, to experience the Sauerbeck Family Drive-In. The drive-in theater is a perfect movie-going choice for all ages.

The drive-in shows double features back to back, with tickets costing about $11 per person. On retro Wednesdays, the theater screens older movies with tickets at $10. Doors open at 8:15 pm, with the first showing starting at 9:15 pm.

While visiting my sister in Louisville, we decided to head to the drive-in to catch Disney’s Jungle Cruise. The space had a large parking lot filled with families, teenagers, and couples. There was a large screen towards the front of the lot that showed both features. Behind us, we noticed a little shop where you could buy food, get drinks, and rent a radio for movie sound. The concession stand included movie theater staples like popcorn and candy while also offering pretzels, mozzarella sticks, and nachos.

While we had brought our own food, we decided to rent a radio to prevent our car from losing battery during the film. Radios were only $6 with a $75 deposit that would be removed once we brought the radio back.

It was so fun to see a movie while being surrounded by nature. Because we had nice weather, we could watch the movie in our car while looking out our window up at the stars. Although it was a 30 minute drive, the trip was so worth the experience.

Other moviegoers agree, with one Google reviewer saying it’s, “Definitely a great place to visit, especially with Covid going on — safe, fun, and family-friendly way to have an outing.”
