Martin Scorsese’s The Irishman has picked up another major top movie prize after landing the 2019 Best Film award from members of the New York Film Critics Circle.
The Netflix mob movie also earned Joe Pesci the Best Supporting Actor honor, while Antonio Banderas (Pain and Glory), Lupita Nyong’o (Us), and Laura Dern (Marriage Story and Little Women) picked up the other acting accolades.
Uncut Gems filmmakers, brothers Benny and Josh Safdie, claimed the Best Director honor, and Best Screenplay went to Quentin Tarantino for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
The winners were announced on Wednesday (December 4, 2019) – a day after The Irishman was crowned Best Movie of the Year by America’s top critics at the National Board of Review.
The New York Film Critics Circle prizegiving will take place on January 7, 2020.
