Hey Hollywooders! June 8 is National Best Friends Day: a day to get together with and honor your closest friends. What better way to celebrate than to watch a movie (or binge three) with your BFFs? We’ve put together a list of 10 movies to check out with your best friends on this special day.

National Best Friends Day movies: Booksmart (2019)

Booksmart is a coming-of-age film that tests the friendship of two high schoolers getting ready to graduate and move on to the next chapter of their lives. Played by Beanie Feldstein and Kaitlyn Dever, the two girls are determined to let loose their last night of being high school students and enjoy the experiences they’ve missed out on the last four years.

In her feature directorial debut, Olivia Wilde effectively depicts the obstacles that friendships face when two friends begin to go in separate directions, and the warmth that comes from overcoming those challenges.

National Best Friends Day movies: Toy Story 3 (2010)

Toy Story 3 tells the story of everyone’s favorite toys as they leave Andy’s house before he goes off to college and find themselves in the hands of new kids. The movie tests the friendship among Woody (Tom Hanks), Buzz (Tim Allen), and the rest of the toys, and explores the significance of Woody’s friendship with Andy. Toy Story 3 ends with the formation of a new friendship with new toys and a new owner named Bonnie.

I’m not going to lie, this movie (like many other Pixar movies) is a real tear-jerker, so you’ll be happy to have your best friends by your side while watching.

National Best Friends Day movies: Someone Great (2019)

What friend group doesn’t love a good rom-com? Someone Great focuses on Jenny (Gina Rodriguez) as she recovers from a breakup with her boyfriend of nine years. Her two best friends, Erin (DeWanda Wise) and Blair (Brittany Snow), accompany her on a trip to a concert to help her get over her ex-boyfriend. The film shows the importance of having great friends by your side when going through life’s worst moments.

National Best Friends Day movies: Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

If you and your BFFs are fans of Marvel or anything superhero related, you have to watch Guardians of the Galaxy. The film follows a ragtag team of misfits and their adventures trying to acquire the Power Stone. Brought together by their lawlessness, the Guardians find friendship and family in one another.

This feel-good action movie stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Dave Bautista, and both Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper in voiceover roles. Its killer soundtrack will leave you and your friends humming the tunes for the next week.

National Best Friends Day movies: Unpregnant (2020)

HBO Max’s Unpregnant tells the story of two former best friends reconnecting amid rather unfortunate circumstances. Teenager Veronica (Haley Lu Richardson) finds herself pregnant with nobody to tell. Not ready to be a mother, Veronica enlists her childhood best friend Bailey (Barbie Ferreira) to help her drive to Alburquerque to get an abortion without her parents knowing. Directed by Rachel Lee Goldenberg, this film explores issues of maintaining friendships, familial conflicts, and bodily autonomy.

Throughout their adventures, Veronica and Bailey realize how much they have missed each other and begin to pick up their friendship right where it left off.

National Best Friends Day movies: Mean Girls (2004)

Perhaps the most iconic high school comedy of the early 2000s, Mean Girls follows new girl Cady Heron (Lindsay Lohan) as she tries to balance new friendships while finding her place at school. Despite some bumps in the road, Cady finds who her real friends are and learns how to be a better friend to those who truly care about her.

Mean Girls was written by Tina Fey, who stars in the movie alongside Rachel McAdams, Lacey Chabert, Amanda Seyfried, and Jonathan Bennett. This “fetch” film will have you and your friends cracking up over the hilarious dialogue and some of the painfully awkward high school scenes.

National Best Friends Day movies: Spirit Untamed (2021)

If you and your best friends are looking to head to the movie theater this National Best Friends Day, Spirit Untamed might be the movie for you! The DreamWorks Animation film stars Isabela Merced, Mckenna Grace, Jake Gyllenhaal, Eiza González, and Julianne Moore.

The film follows Lucky, a young girl who travels back home to reunite with her father when she meets a wild horse named Spirit that she takes a liking to. Spirit Untamed focuses on the relationship Lucky builds with Spirit, the friendships she forms in the process of helping Spirit, and the rekindling of her relationship with her father.

If you and your best friends love thrillers, you need to watch Jennifer’s Body. This film follows best friends Jennifer (Megan Fox) and Needy (Amanda Seyfried) on a night out to a concert. It takes an unexpected turn when Jennifer finds herself possessed, having to kill and eat boys in order to live. The rest of the film explores Needy’s struggle to be a good friend to Jennifer while living her own life and trying to remain unaffected by Jennifer’s new ways.

Love, Simon is the perfect movie to celebrate Pride Month and National Best Friends Day in one watch. The film focuses on teenager Simon (Nick Robinson), who is trying to come to terms with his sexuality in private. While he is learning to become comfortable with his identity, Simon works hard to ensure that his friends don’t find out, which of course backfires. In the end, he learns that they love him unconditionally and would have accepted him the way he is all along. The film also stars Josh Duhamel, Jennifer Garner, and Katherine Langford.

Bridesmaids is a hilarious film that explores friendships during adulthood that are affected by life’s inevitable changes. The movie follows Annie (Kristen Wiig) as she takes on the role of Maid of Honor for her lifelong best friend Lillian (Maya Rudolph). Annie becomes frustrated with the shortcomings in her life as Lillian is embarking on this new journey. Annie’s jealousy over Lillian’s new friendship with Helen (Rose Byrne) drives a wedge between the two, forcing Annie to come to terms with why she is not happy with her life. In the end, the two find that no one else knows them quite as well as they know each other.
