According To Zac Efron, ‘Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates’ Is 80 Percent A True Story

Zac Efron and Adam Devine are starring in a new comedy called Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates. The comedy may seem ridiculous, raunchy and pretty far-fetched, but it’s based on a true story. Actually, according to Efron, the real Mike and Dave said the film is about 80 percent true, which is pretty hard to believe but maybe not so far off once you meet the people the film was inspired by.

In a recent interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live, Efron and Devine spoke about meeting the actual Mike and Dave, and they’re pretty much just what you’d expect.

The story that garnered Mike and Dave fame (and landed Efron and Devine starring roles) is pretty out there. Mike and Dave needed dates to a wedding and placed a Craigslist ad for it. The ad went viral and they went on a ton of dates. According Devine, they’re exactly the type of dudes you’d want to make a movie about.

“They’re awesome,” he said. “When you meet them, you’re like…yeah. They’re making a movie. They’re making a move after you guys. They’re like super tall. They’re super handsome.

Devine then talks about when they saw them on set one morning. “[We were] chugging coffee to wakeup, and they’re drunk. And I’m like, ‘[they’re] my kind of guys,'” he said. “Then later that night they got kicked out of the Jacuzzi [for] making out with hot Swedish girls.” He added “I’m one of the stars of the movie, and I’m not making out with Swedish girls.”

Mike And Dave Need Wedding Dates hits theaters on July 8th. Check out Efron and Devine’s interview with Jimmy Kimmel Live above.
