There’s a thing with Comic book movies that you can either go fun as hell or dark and serious.
DC Cinematic Universe has definitely gone the more serious route with their films. Sure, an attempt was made at a fun one with Suicide Squad but that wasn’t taken very well. It had its moments, and one of the shining stars was one Margot Robbie and her take on Harley Quinn, so now we have her spinoff in ‘Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn’ (yes, that is a long title at 67 characters).
In the film Joker is dead and Harley must fend for her self. She gets into some trouble with Black Mask (Ewan McGregor) and must team up with a number of ladies who find themselves in Mask’s path. She groups with Black Canary (Jurnee Smollett-Bell), Huntress (Mary Elizabeth Winstead), and Renee Montoya (Rosie Perez).
The trailer is fun and it makes sense that these ladies team up to take on a common enemy instead of the normal forced female film. Hopefully, Warner’s robot agrees… But that’s a whole other story.
‘Birds of Prey: And the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn’ releases on February 7, 2020.
