Failure to Launch didn’t live up to its title this weekend.
The romantic comedy starring Matthew McConaughey and Sarah Jessica Parker debuted at the North American box office with a dreamy $24.6 million.
“There hasn’t been a good date movie in a while, and I think women just felt like it was going to be a fun movie,” Rob Moore, worldwide head of marketing and distribution for Paramount told The Associated Press.
Meanwhile, two remakes opened in second and third place. Disney’s family flick The Shaggy Dog, starring Tim Allen, came in second with $16 million, and the mutant horror tale The Hills Have Eyes, was third with $15.5 million.
The Top 12 films grossed an estimated $92.3 million, down 10.68 percent from last year’s draw of $103.4 million but up 11/17 percent from last weekend’s total of $83.1 million.
