Denzel Washington and Viola Davis In Powerful Trailer For ‘Fences’

The Oscar race has begun!

Denzel Washington has directed before, but this year the actor leaps onto the directing scene with ‘Fences’. The movie is based on the play by the same name. In the film set in 1950’s Pittsburgh, Troy (Washington) is a Negro League baseball player who could never make it in the big leagues. He is now a trash collector and lives with his wife Rose (Viola Davis) and their sons Cory (Jovan Adepo) and Gabriel (Mykelti Williamson).

The play ran back in 1987 and won a number of Tony awards (including best actor for James Earl Jones). The play was then brought back into theaters in 2010 and starred Denzel and Viola. The two have already had much success with the play, earning them the Tony award for Best revival of a play, best Actor in a play for Denzel, and best actress in a play for Viola.

Will this play be able to net them an oscar as well? Only time will tell.

Fences will release into theaters on December 25, 2016.
