Doctor Strange sequel loses director over ‘creative differences’

Director Scott Derrickson has stepped away from the Doctor Strange sequel due to “creative differences”.

Derrickson, who directed the first Marvel film starring Benedict Cumberbatch in the title role, had been due to take the helm of follow-up, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

However, Marvel announced in a statement to Variety: “Marvel Studios and Scott Derrickson have amicably parted ways on Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness due to creative differences. We remain grateful to Scott for his contributions to the MCU.”

While Derrickson will remain on the project as an executive producer, bosses are currently searching for a replacement director. Production on the film is due to begin in May (2020), with Marvel adding they don’t expect this schedule to be affected by the change in directors.
