Dwayne Johnson To Star In ‘Journey To The Center Of The Earth’ Sequel

ALT TEXTDwayne Johnson — formerly known as “The Rock” — has just been announced to be traveling to the center of himself.

The actor and former wrestling personality, who’s large enough to have his own gravitational pull, will replace Brendan Fraser in the lead role for New Line Cinema’s Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, the sequel to Journey to the Center of the Earth 3D. Brad Peyton (Cats & Dogs: The Revenge of Kitten Galore) is set to direct, Josh Hutcherson will reprise his role as explorer Sean Anderson, and Beau Flynn and Tripp Vinson are producing the film. Like the previous flick (and every other movie out there), it will be shot and released in 3D.

Johnson plays the boyfriend of Hutcherson’s character’s mom and — get ready for an extremely gripping plot summary — the two are forced to head to a mystical and monstrous island to find Hutcherson’s missing grandfather. CRAZY! The film is loosely based on Jules Verne’s The Mysterious Island — which in Hollywood terms means they probably have the same character names, but that’s about it.

There’s no doubt that all of this news promises for a horrible movie. But like its predecessor, Journey 2 will make a ridiculous amount of money The first grossed more than $250 million worldwide. So, yeah. That’s a lot of guacamole.

Johnson is currently shooting another bound-to-be-terrible movie: The Fast and Furious 5. Eep.
