Exclusive Interview: ‘The Muppets’ Star Jason Segel

This Wednesday, the Muppets return to the big screen for the first time in over a decade in Disney’s The Muppets. A sublime comic romp that will charm both young and old alike, the film might not have existed were it not for the efforts of one Jason Segel. A self-professed Muppets fanatic, the How I Met Your Mother star almost single-handedly rescued Kermit, Miss Piggy, and the rest of Jim Henson’s furry creations from the brink of pop-culture obscurity, producing, co-writing, and starring in their triumphant comeback vehicle.

We caught up recently with Segel, who, joined by the newest Muppet, Walter, talked about revitalizing a franchise, convincing Chris Cooper to rap, and his proposed TV comedy pilot, How I Met Your Muppet (working title):
