Fine, Oscars. You don’t want to nominate Michael Fassbender for his breathtaking role as a sex addict in this past year’s Shame. Well, just know he’ll be doing fine without it.
In the wake of critical acclaim and a role in the highly-anticipated, pseudo-Alien prequel Prometheus (which hits this summer), Fassbender has lined up another job that should make anyone aware of his talent dizzy from potential greatness. Deadline.com confirms the actor will re-team with Prometheus director and three-time Academy Award nominee Ridley Scott for The Counselor, the first original screenplay penned by acclaimed author Cormac McCarthy (The Road).
Details are scarce, but producer Steve Schwartz shed a little light a few weeks ago: “Since McCarthy himself wrote the script, we get his own muscular prose directly, with its sexual obsessions. It’s a masculine world into which, unusually, two women intrude to play leading roles. McCarthy’s wit and humor in the dialogue make the nightmare even scarier. This may be one of McCarthy’s most disturbing and powerful works.”
Fassbender is one of the best actors working today and has been steadily climbing the in-demand list for the last two years. Will this dream team finally make him a household name?
The movie is set to shoot in May, so watch for this one in 2013.
