Get Inspired by the First Teaser Trailer for ‘Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom’ Starring Idris Elba

“People learn to hate. They can be taught to love.”

These simple, yet compelling words of wisdom reverberate from Mandela: Long Walk To Freedoma fearless film that spans Nelson Mandela’s remarkable life, from his childhood in a rural village to his inauguration as the first democratically elected president of South Africa. Idris Elba, shown walking through a field in this first look at the film, portrays the civil rights leader who triumphantly overcomes every obstacle thrown in his path. Bond girl Naomie Harris stars as Mandela’s wife, Winnie, in her second big role since Skyfall.

The first teaser for the film makes up for its small amount of footage with a voiceover of Elba’s spot-on impersonation of the inspiring leader. The movie, which began shooting last May after the Weinstein Co. acquired the North American rights to the Justin Chadwick-directed biopic, is based on Mandela’s autobiography of the same name.

While the film is scheduled for a limited release in the U.S. on November 29, the South African leader has been hospitalized in critical condition for the last month. But as he fights for his life and freedom once more, the trailer’s narration rings loud and clear: it has been a long road for Nelson Mandela, and it’s not over yet.
