For years people wanted a full-on Sonic film.
Sure there was a tv show (that I for one loved), but that wasn’t the same. It wouldn’t be till around 28 years later that Paramount would bless us with one, and that blessing turned out to be a curse. The first version of Sonic was awful. It looked weird, it was too long, and it had TEETH. Fans took out their pitchforks and basically rioted online, but you know what? Paramount did something about it. I won’t be like James Corden and Rebel Wilson and blame the VFX department, they were just following the model that someone came up with. So, Paramount pushed back the release, and here we are.
The thing is, the actors in the film probably didn’t know what the Sonic would look like. They were just happy to be in this film, Ben Schwartz especially as you’ll find out in the above interview. They just acted to a ball (point of reference, but it’s a ball) and a paper mache version of the hedgehog and that was that.
As always, I won’t tell you what to do with your money, BUT, people should probably reward Paramount for going back and fixing their mistakes. Sure you could argue they shouldn’t have made the mistake in the first place, but whatever.
I for one, am now ready to talk about the Smash Bros Initiative.
‘Sonic the Hedgehog’ is in theaters now.
