Halle Berry Joins ‘Shoe Addicts Anonymous’

ALTHalle Berry, whose last big movie was 2006’s X-Men: The Last Stand, has signed on to star in Shoe Addicts Anonymous, where she will play a shoe-addicted agoraphobe who feeds her compulsion by buying online footwear.

Berry will lead an ensemble cast of “four Chicago women from different ethnic backgrounds” (groups of women-friends are most stable in fours, we have learned) who share a love of shoes and all wear 7.5s.  So naturally they form a support group, swap shoes, and become “sole sisters.”  In time, “their bond goes beyond footwear.”  Let’s hope so!

Paul Weiland (Made of Honor) is set to direct the comedy, with a screenplay adapted from the eponymous bestselling novel by Beth Harbison.  Kristen Buckley and Brian Regan (How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days) wrote the script.

The real question for me is whether Berry has the comedic chops to carry a film like this.  Her last real comedy was Bulworth (1998), unless you can call Catwoman a comedy –  of errors!  But in all seriousness, this will be Berry’s first time playing a character of this kind, following in the footsteps of Sarah Jessica Parker and Kate Hudson.  It will be interesting to see if she can pull it off.

No other actresses have been cast yet, so it remains to be seen who Berry will have to play off of.  I always like Lizzy Kaplan in these kinds of things, though she might be too young for this flick.  There’s still no distributer, but expect updates on the rest of casting sometime soon.
