Is ‘The Man Of Steel’ Getting Set For Christmas 2012?

Just yesterday, Warner Bros. Pictures and The IMAX Corporation announced an extensive partnership that will see 20 films get the 70mm treatment, including the conclusion of the epic Harry Potter film series, Zach Snyder’s Legends Of The Guardians and the forthcoming third Batman movie from Christopher Nolan and his developing Superman project. No release dates were mentioned or previously set for the latter pair of highly anticipated comic book adaptations.

But today, IESB has learned that the studio and co-financier Legendary Pictures may have agreed on a tentative release date for what is currently being referred to as The Man Of Steel – Christmas 2012. Though we can’t stress enough how this is still unconfirmed and therefore a RUMOR, the thought of a new Superman film taking shape – even in the earliest of stages – is very exciting.

Even more nerdgasmic is the notion of a possible DC double-header: could 2012 will see the release of Nolan’s third installment of his Dark Knight saga AND The Man Of Steel? It’s not totally implausible. Nolan will be finished with work on his sci-fi thriller Inception within the next 6-8 weeks, leaving plenty of time to get a new Caped Crusader adventure off the ground for a Summer 2012 release. Whether or not Warner Bros. would decide to lump two of their potentially biggest films of the new decade together in one year remains to be seen.
