If you’re a fan of Batman: The Animated Series, then you’re probably used to Harley Quinn’s original court jester costume. However, upon seeing all of the trailers and promos for Suicide Squad, it’s clear that Harley’s costume in the film has a more modern spin to it. Instead of the jester body suit, Ms. Quinn will be rocking a ripped t-shirt, booty shorts and a sports jacket. Paul Dini who wrote and produced The Animated Series said of the change, “I know it’s jarring to a lot of the people who love the classic Bruce Timm suit. I love it myself. But in that world [of the Suicide Squad movie], I just don’t see it happening. It’s a rougher, more street look. I think it works fine.”
However, actress Margot Robbie who plays Harley Quinn in Suicide Squad says that the original court jester costume almost made it into the film. She told Hello Giggles. “We tried on every variation of the costume. I cannot emphasize enough how many outfits, and how many variations of the Harley Quinn costume we tried. We tried the court jester costume, we tried the corset and skirt, we tried leather pants, we tried literally every type of costume possible for her. I really love where we ended up. And who knows, maybe in the sequels we’ll go with the court jester one. I think there’s a world of possibilities.”
Despite Robbie assuring us that the court jester costume might end up in the possible sequel for Suicide Squad, we might have proof that we may see Harley in her OG costume in the upcoming film after all. B-Roll footage of the film was just released, and we see the Harley’s jester costume pops up several times. It appears once on a mannequin in The Joker’s house, and then again when Harley herself is holding it. Check it out for yourself below.
One Imgur user SecretlyHankScorpio said of the costume, “From what I’ve seen the film is going to cover the birth of Harley, so its not unreasonable to think the joker would have a costume for her.”
