Jared Leto Hasn’t Even Seen ‘Suicide Squad’ And Admits He Felt Tricked Into Doing The Film

Suicide Squad has been reamed in the press for failing to live up to the hype of the previews. The lack of story surrounding the Joker, which was the film’s main selling point, has drawn up so much controversy that a fan even planned to sue Warner Bros. over it. Fans and critics aren’t the only ones disappointed by the film. The Joker himself admitted that he felt tricked into doing a sub-par movie.

Jared Leto recently opened up about Suicide Squad during Camp Mars, a camp-themed event for fans of his band 3o Second To Mars. During a Q&A, Leto told a group of fans that he felt “tricked” into playing the Joker. He had thought the film was going to be much more artistic than the final cut actually was. Reportedly, he was so disappointed that he didn’t even watch the film!

A Jared Leto fan site on Tumblr posted a summary of his Q&A. It read:

“He was very honest about the film this weekend; his disappointment in what he’s learned of the theatrical cut (he’s still not seen the film); feeling sort of tricked into being a part of something that had been pitched to him very differently; thinking it would’ve been more artistic than what it became; feeling overwhelmed by the hate regarding the look and choices…”

Leto also mentioned that he laughed in the face of his Suicide Squad contract (much like we’d expect from Gotham’s clown-faced villain). The contract had barred him from partaking in dangerous activities like rock climbing, which he loves. Instead of sitting out, he said “F**k ’em” and went rock climbing anyway.

Poor Leto lost his mind while method acting for what he thought would be an art house thriller, only to discover that his part was basically a 15-minute cameo. We already know Leto’s not too pleased with how many of his scenes were cut and admits that there’s enough sitting on the cutting room floor to make a whole Joker film.

Let’s hope Warner Bros. uses that extra footage to make the creepy thriller we thought we were getting when they started teasing Leto’s character to begin with.
