Joaquin Phoenix is an excellent ‘Joker’ in the Final Trailer

I’ve said this before, but the Joker is one of the most difficult characters to play.

Difficult only because there are so many different takes on him. He’s also one of the few (might be only) comic book characters that have netted an actor an Academy Award for their portrayal (Heath Ledger). Now we enter Joaquin Phoenix’s portrayal.

In this version, Arthur Fleck is a stand-up comic who only wants to make the world laugh. Unfortunately, the world won’t laugh with him. He tries to make a child giggle only to have the mother yell at him, he’s been beaten up at his job flipping signs, his psychologist is dropping him as a client, and someone close to him is dying. If that’s not enough, he’s finally on tv with his hero Murray Franklin plays a clip of him only to make fun of him. All of that can make a person go mad, and as it turns out there’s more in the world that agree with him, including Sophie Dumond (Zazie Beetz), and it’s time for Joker to change that.

A comic book movie that deals with real-life problems like mental health?
