Kaya Scodelario upsets PETA bosses by joking about sick Pirates monkey

Disney bosses have been dropped into some pretty deep hot water after actress Kaya Scodelario revealed her monkey co-star was sick throughout the new Pirates of the Caribbean movie.

The actress, who plays Carina Smyth in the new film, Dead Men Tell No Tales, has been blasted by animal rights campaigners for chuckling her way through interviews as she talked about the sea-sick ape.

“The monkey threw up all the time,” she said in an interview, according to The Sun. “He had a very tiny stomach and when we were filming on the boat he would just projectile vomit in the middle of scenes, which I found hilarious.”

Her comments and the use of the Capuchin monkey in yet another Pirates film have been blasted by PETA activists.

“Early on, PETA called on the film’s producers to use computer-generated imagery instead of intelligent and highly social Capuchin, whose complex physical and psychological needs cannot be met on any film set or in a training compound,” a spokesman says. “Hollywood must learn the lesson that there’s simply no safe or humane way to force a wild animal to perform in a movie.”

Ironically, the new Pirates movie features one of PETA’s biggest celebrity pals, Sir Paul McCartney, who plays Uncle Jack in the new blockbuster.

Original franchise stars Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley also appear in the flick.
