‘King Kong’ DVD Sets Record

Consumers snapped up 6.5 million copies of King Kong in its first six days in stores, making it the best-selling Universal Studios release ever.

The sales tally amounts to more than $100 in revenue, which is in addition to the $550 million worldwide box-office earnings.

The blockbuster is currently the second-biggest seller so far this year, outdone only by Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, which sold nearly 9 million DVDs in its first week of release.

’Final Destination’ DVD to Become Interactive

Final Destination 3 will give viewers the chance to make life or death choices for the characters when it is released on DVD later this year.

The disc will mark the biggest experiment with interactive software and additional content to date.

Other movie studios have offered DVDs with alternate endings and interactive features but not at such a sophisticated level.

New Line Home Video Senior Vice President Mike Mulvihill says, “For this to really work, we thought, We’ve got to engage A-level filmmakers that are already working for us.”

The “Thrill Ride” edition gives viewers seven storylines to choose from at 10-minute intervals. Viewers can also opt to see the theatrical version without the interactive content.
