Mel Gibson Won’t Appear In ‘Hangover 2’

Mel GibsonAfter reports that Zach Galifianakis was upset with the production of one of his current films, it was speculated it was with The Hangover 2. Then word dropped that Mel Gibson would be making a cameo in the movie as a Thai tattoo artist. And now after the cast and crew objected to his appearance, Gibson won’t be appearing in the film. If you are the type of person who can connect seemingly related items together then you might think Galifianakis was the reason Gibson was kicked off.

And you would be exactly right.

And as several other sites have concluded, this is kind of hypocritical of the cast and crew. Remember when Mike Tyson made his cameo in the 2009 original and everyone heartily laughed? Sure you do. Do you also remember when Tyson served an actual prison sentence for raping a woman (not to mention a bounty of other things)? Where was the uproar then? Just to play devil’s advocate here Gibson spouted off anti-Semitic remarks while intoxicated and verbally abused his girlfriend over the phone but hasn’t been convicted of doing anything physical to her.

Was the cast right? Were they right on both counts? Would the casting of Gibson been kosher in a few years when the heat from his outburst has cooled? I don’t know, but I think they have the right to work with whomever they choose.

Still, as a fan of comedy, films and The Hangover, and ignoring everything else, I think his cameo would have been funny. Gibson does have good timing and delivery. But since you can’t remove his stigma I guess it just had to be. Oh well.
