To be the best at something takes constant practice. To be the worst at something can still take practice. That’s exactly what happened to Florence Foster Jenkins.
Florence Foster Jenkins (Meryl Streep) was an American socialite who had dreams of being a music artist. She was a child prodigy on the piano, but after a wrist injury, she resorted to singing. The only problem is she couldn’t sing. If you don’t believe me, check out her hilariously bad recording here (I warn you, it’s really bad). She came into money after her father died so she used that with her British “husband” St Clair Bayfield (
Florence came into money after her father died so she used that with her British “husband” St Clair Bayfield (Hugh Grant) to book Cosme McMoon (Simon Helberg) to help her. Unfortunately for her, I don’t think anyone could help. Jenkins lived by the motto “People say I can’t sing, but they can’t say I didn’t sing”. She managed to convince people that she was a spectacle to see and anyone who said otherwise didn’t know any better.
