A photo of Meryl Streep as Into the Woods‘ wicked witch has crept its way onto the Internet, and man oh man does she look wonderfully creepy. The twisted fantasy musical finds Streep’s character attempting to reverse a curse so that her beauty may be restored. In the meantime, she spends her time casting spells on various well-known characters from popular children’s fairytales.
It seems like everyday we find out that some other notable actor has been cast in the upcoming film version of the Stephen Sondheim/James Lapine musical Into the Woods, which means that everyday we just get even more excited for its release. (Yes, no one seems to be too thrilled that Johnny Depp has been cast as The Wolf, but guys, his character doesn’t have that much screentime.) Other cast members include Anna Kendrick as Cinderella, Chris Pine as her prince, Christine Baranski as her stepmother, and Emily Blunt as The Baker’s Wife.
Into the Woods, directed by Rob Marshall (Chicago and Nine), is slated for a Dec. 2014 release.
