Mindy Kaling and Dan Goor have been recruited to bring Reese Witherspoon‘s beloved Legally Blonde character, Elle Woods, back to the big screen.
The duo has officially signed on to write MGM’s Legally Blonde 3, according to Deadline sources, while Witherspoon will star and produce alongside the franchise’s original producer, Marc Platt.
Kirsten Smith and Karen McCullah pieced together the first screenplay for the film, but Deadline insiders insist Kaling and Goor have come up with a fresh story, which film bosses prefer.
Kaling is currently enjoying the success of Netflix hit Never Have I Ever and Hulu series Four Weddings and a Funeral – both of which she co-created and executive produced.
Meanwhile, Goor is the co-creator of TV comedy Brooklyn Nine-Nine.
