Paul Greengrass Considering A Travis McGee Movie

Paul GreengrassWell, looks like Paul Greengrass won’t be making his Martin Luther King, Jr movie anytime soon. And since idle hands are the devil’s workshop (which I bet violates so many building codes) he’s looking for another project. Among the front runners for his next film is an adaptation of The Deep Good-By, a novel featuring the misadventure-prone beach bum and sometimes “salvage consultant” Travis McGee. Oliver Stone was considering it as his next picture, but dropped out in favor of the quickly-casting-up Savages.

Leading the pack of potential McGee’s is Leonardo DiCaprio, who’s long wanted to play the laid-back protagonist. The McGee novels have numbers running in the tens, so this is a potential franchise (because everything is a franchise these days). Greengrass is looking at other projects as well while Dicaprio hasn’t had a weekend free in three years and seems to be booked all the way through 2034.
