Reese Witherspoon is back on the public’s radar, without the handcuffs this time. She’s the latest star to join Paul Thomas Anderson’s new film, Inherent Vice. The movie, which is an adaptation of Thomas Pynchon’s novel of the same name, is also starring Joaquin Phoenix, Owen Wilson, and Benicio Del Toro.

The movie is set in Los Angeles at the turn of the 1970s, as drug-fueled detective Larry “Doc” Sportello investigates the disappearance of an ex-girlfriend. Phoenix, who plays Sportello, previously teamed up with Witherspoon in Walk the Line. Phoenix was nominated for an Oscar for his portrayal of Johnny Cash in the film, and Witherspoon won the Oscar for her portrayal of June Carter. We’re sure Reese is hoping this film will put her back on the awards stage… and keep her away from the back of a cop car.
