He’s joined the Marvel Comics’ Blade and X-Men film franchises before jumping ship to take the lead of Warner Bros. and DC Comics’ highly anticipated Green Lantern adaptation. Today, Collider reports that Ryan Reynolds will take on yet another role sprung from the pages of a comic book book as he’s committed himself to R.I.P.D., David Dobkin’s big-screen transfer of Peter Lenkov’s graphic novel which tells the tale of a recently slain cop who joins a team of undead police officers working for the Rest in Peace Department and tries to find the man who murdered him.
Reynolds would portray the deceased cop while the role of a mortal police officer hasn’t been cast yet. Neal H. Moritz is producing the film and said that it would be a PG-13 buddy action/comedy. Matt Manfredi and Phil Hay penned the script.
It seems as though Reynolds has become the go-to-guy for comic book adaptations – not a bad thing to be in today’s entertainment marketplace. As he balances action oriented films like The Green Lantern, Motorcade and R.I.P.D. with his bread and butter comedies like The Change-Up (with Jason Bateman) and TMI, it’s apparent that he’s quickly becoming one of the most popular and sought after actors working today.
