See The First Teaser For YA Novel ‘Artemis Fowl’

I will be honest with you, until this teaser I’ve never heard of Artemis Fowl.

Artemis Fowl is a series of 8 novels as well as graphic novel adaptations by author Eoin Colfer. In the first novel, Artemis Fowl II is a teenage evil genius who with the help of his bodyguard Domovoi Butler and his sister Juliet, captures Holly Short a fairy and a captain of LEPrecon to exploit the magical fairy people.

So now that a teaser has been released, what are the fans saying about it?

I braved reddit to find out, and as always, fans aren’t totally happy. The problem with bringing a loved novel to screen is that people have pictures in their head of what these characters look like as well as who they could see playing them. When those specific guidelines aren’t met, the entire franchise is ruined. Fans have been saying that Artemis is too young looking, or too short, or the fairy is not the same height and that Domovoi isn’t how they pictured at all.

Not only that, but scenes when well written are in someone’s head, and when the film is different its noticeable (who could forget in ‘Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire’ when JK wrote “Did you put your name into the Goblet Dumbledore asked calmly” and on-screen he yelled and grabbed Harry in what would turn into a meme. Fans have noted that there is a scene in this short teaser that doesn’t play out like it did in the book.

As always, this is a teaser, and to really find out what this movie is like, we need more trailers or the actual movie.

‘Artemis Fowl’ releases August 9, 2019.
