It’s been over ten years since Billy Bob Thornton graced our screens as the hard-drinking, foul-mouth shopping mall Santa who sleeps with Lorelai Gilmore. With Bad Santa 2 currently in the works (helmed by Mean Girls director Mark Waters), we thought we would catch up with Brett Kelly, the child actor who played the gullible, but lovable Thurman Merman.

When Kelly was just 8 years old, he beat out Two and a Half Men‘s Angus T. Jones for the part in the Christmas comedy, his first major acting role.
“Filming Bad Santa was really where I learned everything that I knew at that point about movies,” Kelly told Express, “That was really the first big thing that I had done.” Since Bad Santa, Kelly has starred in Unaccompanied Minors, Trick ‘r Treat, and The Sandlot 2.
While Kelly hasn’t acted in five years, he is expected to reprise his role for Bad Santa 2 which is scheduled to release in 2016.
