Somewhere along the films, DC Universe forgot that comics are allowed to be fun.
Lately, with Justice League, Suicide Squad, and more, the films are dark (storyline-wise) gritty and too dark to see anything.
Billy Batson (Asher Angel) is a foster kid on the run who just wants to be older (like every kid ever). After saving his new foster brother Freddy (Jack Dylan Grazer), the Wizard (Djimon Hounsou) gives him the power to transform into the adult superhero Shazam (Zachary Levi). Superstrength, electricity manipulation, speed, flight, and the ability to purchase beer at a convenience store. With superpowers comes evil people, so Shazam will have to battle Dr. Thaddeus Sivana (Mark Strong), once he figures out how to use his newly acquired super powers.
Overall like I said, this film looks fun. A kid becoming a superhero is a fun concept and Zachary Levi is the perfect actor to play that role. Also, the use of Eminem’s “My Name Is” is such a good shout out to the comic book fans that know the history of Shazam (His original name was Captain Marvel before Marvel Comics scooped it up)
‘Shazam’ releases on April 5, 2019.
