There are a few Directors that you can tell it’s their film from the second you start watching it. You can tell you’re watching a film by Tarantino, Burton, Michael Bay, and more from the moment it begins. Wes Anderson is the epitome of a style director, and that’s no different with his newest film ‘The French Dispatch’.
Everything screams Anderson from the color palette, outfits, camera framing, aspect ratio, symmetry and more. Nothing is more apparent than the cast. Wes has actors that he loves to use and can be found in most of his movies (even small roles). In this film, in particular, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Adrien Brody, and Edward Norton all have roles. Wes didn’t stop there, adding the star power of Timothée Chalamet, Elisabeth Moss, Benicio Del Toro, Frances McDormand, Jeffrey Wright, Tilda Swinton, Léa Seydoux, Willem Dafoe, Christoph Waltz, Live Schreiber, and more.
The story from the trailer is a love letter to journalists. It takes place in France following a fictional US newspaper in a fake French city. There’s multiple stories, which almost feels like we are getting multiple stories in one film.
You had me at Wes Anderson honestly.
‘The French Dispatch’ releases on July 24, 2020.
