The Greatest ‘Scream’ Moments of All Time

The Scream movie series has continually terrified viewers during its run on the big screen, with masked slasher Ghostface going after his unsuspecting victims left and right like a seasoned pro. We love to watch these moments on-screen, and we can’t wait to see how the upcoming Scream TV series plays out. In preparation for a new generation of victims for Ghostface (and a new mask at that), here are some of the greatest Scream moments of all time.

1. Scream is turned into a film-within-a-film in Scream 2.

Who could have predicted that Scream 2 would turn the original movie into Stab, starring Heather Graham as Drew Barrymore? This isn’t exactly terrifying, but it’s a hilarious entry for viewers from the first film and newcomers to the franchise.

2. Scream runs down the “rules” of being in a horror movie.

Randy (Jamie Kennedy) starts the party in the original Scream movie by proclaiming the “rules” to surviving a horror movie, and then proceeds to break every single one of them. It’s a defining moment for the series, and one that would stick with fans for a long time to come.

3. Scream showed you just how brutal things were going to get with its first kill.

While we’re still getting used to Scream as a serious horror film even after Casey (Drew Barrymore) is quizzed on her horror movie knowledge, we get hit with the first kill of the movie in Steve, Casey’s boyfriend. It’s brutal, too.

4. That only set the scene for what we’d see next out of Scream.

There’s no way the supposed heroine of the film should die at the beginning of the movie, right? Wrong. Scream turned everything upside down with this gutsy move.

5. Scream 4 has one of the killers eliminate the other when you least expect it.

Scream 4 featured two killers who you thought would likely get away with it all, except at the very last minute Jill (Emma Roberts) decides that’s just not gonna be kosher.

6. CiCi Cooper (Sarah Michelle Gellar) bites the dust in Scream 2

Sarah Michelle Gellar is someone we’re used to seeing kick a lot of ass, so it was jarring to see her playing CiCi Cooper, a decidedly different role for her. Oh, and she dies because she’s a little too dim to leave the house after receiving a death threat.

7. Jenny McCarthy’s character is brutally murdered after she mocks her character’s movie role in Scream 3.

Jenny McCarthy made her appearance in Scream 3, and it was suspected she might well be another leading lady. But all she had to do was mock the character she was going to play, and she died soon after. It was that simple.

8.  Jennifer gets trapped behind a one-way mirror and it’s game over.

Parker Posey absolutely slayed later down the road as Fiona in Josie and the Pussycats, but before that she was one of the most sprightly, yet annoying characters of Scream history and ends up dying because she’s caught behind a one-way mirror. Bad move there, Jen.

9. Tatum Riley tries to escape through a doggie door in Scream

Maybe it’s not fair to laugh at someone’s death, but watching Tatum Riley try and escape her fate by climbing through a tiny doggie door in a garage door is hilarious.

10. Principal Himbry gets stabbed with a pair of scissors in Scream.

The Fonz met a swift end in the original Scream. Ayyyy. Not cool.
