The new trailer for Disney’s ‘The Lion King’ is so realistic it makes you forget at times that it’s CGI, but how realistic is too realistic?
This trailer has many scenes that people will remember are from the original animated film. The scenes of young Simba and Nala going to the Elephant Graveyard, Mufasa talking to Simba about how to rule, Simba growing up, Nala before the sexy lion eyes are all there. The trailer is very James Earl Jones heavy (which is fine by me) with a couple of bites of Chiwetel Ejiofor’s Scar and that’s about it. We don’t see the mouths move much, except for a small bit from Scar, and that might be on purpose. Jungle Book was a similar situation also directed by Jon Favreau and had a problem of realistic animals but their mouths move to talk. We haven’t heard from most of the characters, including Donald Glover’s Simba, so it’s impossible to tell how the main character will sound.
At the end of the day, I’ll end up seeing this movie since I grew up with Lion King being my favorite Disney movie. At this point, I should just deposit my checks straight to Disney.
‘The Lion King’ releases on July 19, 2019.
