There Is An Actual Script For ‘Star Trek 2’ And It Includes a Lady for Kirk

Chris Pine Star TrekIf you’re like me — and chances are if an article about the Star Trek sequel enticed you then you are — you are chomping at the bit for any sliver of intel about the next installment of J.J. Abrams’ fantastic reboot of the sci-fi classic. Well guess what? Thanks to Chris Pine’s completely down-to-earth love of social media, namely Facebook, he’s given us something to look forward to: Star Trek 2 is coming, there IS a script, and he’s read it. Permission to rejoice: granted.

For those that are lucky enough to be able to see his Facebook updates (some guy at MTV) Pine broadcast to his interweb friends this bit of news, “After a thousand questions regarding the Star Trek sequel I can finally say I am holding the draft script in my hand. I can also now tell you I have a love interest and it’s all looking very exciting. Sorry but I cant give you a date for filming yet, but you guys are going to love it!”

This is very good news. Yes, we all loved the clandestine love affair between Spock and Uhura in Star Trek, but the new Captain Kirk is a mega babe and he needs a love interest, not just a hookup with some easy green girl. While fans have suggested that we may see the return of the future mother of Kirk’s child (Carol Marcus from The Wrath of Khan) I’d like to whole heartedly disagree. My favorite aspect of Abrams’ new Star Trek is that thanks to some fancy time-traveling footwork, the flick allows for any future films to completely disregard the stipulations of Star Trek legacy. They are not bound by things like the fact that Kirk has a son. In this alternate reality, who knows what Kirk is up to? It’s a totally different world. While Abrams and crew are obviously Star Trek fans and there’s no doubt they aim to stay true to the characters that fans have been invested in for so many years, I highly doubt they would let the storyline be so predictable because a: he’s J.J. Abrams, he doesn’t do predictable. And b: there’s no way they would go through the trouble of creating an alternate reality just so they could repeat history. It just doesn’t make sense.

Alright, I need to stop talking about this because it’s just creating anxiety about the fact that while we have a script, we still have no idea when production will start which means we have a lot of waiting between us and the sequel. But hey, we have a script! That’s good news, right? (Yes, it is.)
