This ‘Grease’ Fan Theory Says Sandy Was Dead All Along

Remember how Sandy and Danny meet in the ’70s musical classic Grease? They met on a beach after Danny saved her life because she nearly drowned. What Danny was actually unable to save her?

A new fan theory speculates that Sandy was dead for almost the entirety of Grease. When the pair met on the beach, Danny had attempted to save Sandy who was drowning. The line “Goodbye to Sandra Dee” is supposed to be a reference to the fact that she didn’t make it.

The movie is actually a vivid coma dream. After Sandy drowned, she had the coma fantasy involving her and Danny’s summer fling. As time passed, the visions got even more outlandish (remember the car at the end that defies the laws of gravity and flies into the air?). As Danny tries to resuscitate her on the beach, she feels herself slip away, hence the flying car.

So basically, Sandy was dead the entire movie. Think about it — the plot perfectly wrapped up.  It had such a happy ending. Rizzo wasn’t pregnant. Kenickie decided he loved Rizzo. Danny and Sandy basically lived happily ever after.

Except they didn’t because Sandy is dead.

What do you think of this fan theory?
