Tony Winner Becomes ‘Britain’s Got Talent’ Star: James Corden Is Paul Potts

James CordenBack when the idea of a biopic for Britain’s Got Talent sensation Paul Potts was first unleashed unto the world, the likes of Katy Perry and Adele were mentioned as possible performers to take the role of Potts’ wife Julie-Ann. If names this big were being considered for a secondary character, you’d imagine that Potts himself would command a star of Cloonian proportions. But it looks like producers are opting for skill over notoriety: Deadline reports that the Weinstein Company has cast Tony winner James Corden to take the role of Potts in One Chance, a film about the cell phone salesman-turned-singing star’s journey.

Corden snagged the title of Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Play at the 2012 Tony Awards. Although he might be best known in the theatrical community, Corden has a good deal of film work under his belt, including 2011’s The Three Musketeers and 2010’s Gulliver’s Travels. Corden has also been cast in another musically-themed picture, Can a Song Save Your Life, which presently stars Keira Knightley, Mark Ruffalo, and Hailee Steinfeld.
