‘Top Gun 2’ Script to Be Penned by ‘The Town’ Writer

Peter Craig, who co-wrote the screenplay for The Town, has been tapped by Paramount to pen the script for the long-awaited Top Gun 2.

It’s taken years and many rumors to get to this point, and after the interest in a Top Gun 3D re-release and the solid box office performance of original star Tom Cruise‘s recent Mission: Impossible – Ghost Protocol (Cruise has long wanted a sequel), the follow-up appears to be getting underway in earnest — more than a quarter century after the original.

Craig (who just so happens to be the son of legendary actress Sally Field!), meanwhile, has another high-profile sequel to write: Bad Boys 3.
