Upcoming Horror Movies We Can’t Wait To Watch In Theaters

A new season of horror films is kicking up in what we’re calling early Halloween. Nearly everyone can imagine a film or show that has a scene where the characters experience a horror movie in theaters. The scenes are normally full of jump scares, tension, and popcorn going everywhere. These scenes remind me of the importance of going to see horror movies in theaters. You can feel suspense in the room and it’s a good way to connect with friends and other moviegoers.

Horror films strive to evoke emotions within the audience for entertainment purposes. The goal is to inspire fear, terror, and disgust by centering on the unknown and scary. The genre was originally inspired by gothic literature. It is also known for overlapping into multiple genres which can make it enjoyable for a variety of audiences. As someone who didn’t originally like horror, I recommend trying different subgenres before ruling horror out altogether.

With all that in mind, here is a wide variety of horror movies we’re excited to watch in theaters this year.

Upcoming new horror movies: The Forever Purge

The Forever Purge is a dystopian action horror film and the fifth in the Purge series. It is a direct follow-up on The Purge: Election Year. The film is directed by Everardo Gout and written by James DeMonaco. Following the abolition of the Purge, a Mexican couple escaping a drug cartel is stranded on a ranch in Texas where the residents plan to unlawfully continue their own Purge.

The film stars Ana de la Reguera, Tenoch Huerta, Josh Lucas, Cassidy Freeman, Leven Rambin, Alejandro Edda, and Will Patton.

In an interview with Collider, director Everardo Gout shared his excitement over Ana de la Reguera’s character, who is “a mature, beautiful, intelligent woman who kicks ass.” The director continued to say that this representation is important to him because he saw those characteristics within his mother and he “wanted to portray that.”

Fans are excited for the next movie of the series.

In an interview with Cinema Blend, director Adam Robitel explained the importance of going back to movie theaters:

“The Latin root of the word horror means ‘to bristle on the back of the neck.’ It’s the one genre that has a physical and physiological influence over the audience. It’s manipulating them. People love to be afraid in groups. They love to go on dates, to scream and grab their popcorn.”
