A new season of horror films is kicking up in what we’re calling early Halloween. Nearly everyone can imagine a film or show that has a scene where the characters experience a horror movie in theaters. The scenes are normally full of jump scares, tension, and popcorn going everywhere. These scenes remind me of the importance of going to see horror movies in theaters. You can feel suspense in the room and it’s a good way to connect with friends and other moviegoers.
Horror films strive to evoke emotions within the audience for entertainment purposes. The goal is to inspire fear, terror, and disgust by centering on the unknown and scary. The genre was originally inspired by gothic literature. It is also known for overlapping into multiple genres which can make it enjoyable for a variety of audiences. As someone who didn’t originally like horror, I recommend trying different subgenres before ruling horror out altogether.
With all that in mind, here is a wide variety of horror movies we’re excited to watch in theaters this year.
Upcoming new horror movies: The Forever Purge
The Forever Purge is a dystopian action horror film and the fifth in the Purge series. It is a direct follow-up on The Purge: Election Year. The film is directed by Everardo Gout and written by James DeMonaco. Following the abolition of the Purge, a Mexican couple escaping a drug cartel is stranded on a ranch in Texas where the residents plan to unlawfully continue their own Purge.
The film stars Ana de la Reguera, Tenoch Huerta, Josh Lucas, Cassidy Freeman, Leven Rambin, Alejandro Edda, and Will Patton.
In an interview with Collider, director Everardo Gout shared his excitement over Ana de la Reguera’s character, who is “a mature, beautiful, intelligent woman who kicks ass.” The director continued to say that this representation is important to him because he saw those characteristics within his mother and he “wanted to portray that.”
Fans are excited for the next movie of the series.
#ForeverPurge I can’t wait!! 💯

Some fans think this will be the best movie the series has produced.
I enjoy The Purge. The movies & TV show have been decent and are usually fun but I always felt like the concept was capable of greatness, & hasn’t yet achieved it. But this #ForeverPurge ? Idk, I think it’s got some potential.

Upcoming new horror movies: Escape Room: Tournament of Champions
Escape Room: Tournament of Champions is a psychological horror sequel to 2019’s Escape Room. It is directed by Adam Robitel and written by Will Honley, Maria Melnik, Daniel Tuch, and Oren Uziel. After surviving the deadly escape rooms from the previous film, Zoey (Taylor Russell) and Ben (Logan Miller) are determined to go up against the Minos Escape Rooms Corporation and bring those who died to justice. On their way, they are unexpectedly trapped with other escape room survivors. In order to bring justice, they must escape these deadly traps yet again.
The film also stars Isabelle Fuhrman, Thomas Cocquerel, Holland Roden, Carlito Olivero, and Indya Moore.
In an interview with Cinema Blend, director Adam Robitel explained the importance of going back to movie theaters:
“The Latin root of the word horror means ‘to bristle on the back of the neck.’ It’s the one genre that has a physical and physiological influence over the audience. It’s manipulating them. People love to be afraid in groups. They love to go on dates, to scream and grab their popcorn.”
We couldn’t agree more!
Some fans are excited about this season’s movie lineup.
next month I’m eating good.. Black Widow, Gunpowder Milkshake, AND Escape Room: Tournament of Champions.

After digging into her husband’s belongings, she finds secrets and a mystery that needs to be solved.
Sarah Goldberg, Stacy Martin, Evan Jonigkeit, Vondie Curtis-Hall, and Amber Anne also star in the film. It originally premiered on January 24, 2020, at the Sundance Film Festival.
In an interview with Nightmarish Conjurings, director David Bruckner said he thinks “exploring fear and anxiety is a reason to go to movies and it’s something that [he has] taken an interest in, translating those kinds of emotions into horror tropes and putting them on screen.”

Upcoming new horror movies: Candyman
Candyman is a supernatural slasher film that is a sequel to the 1992 film of the same name. It is directed by Nia DaCosta and written by her, Jordan Peele, and Win Rosenfeld. Anthony McCoy, played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, is a visual artist who moves into a condo in Chicago’s Cabrini neighborhood, which is now gentrified and unrecognizable. He comes across an older resident who exposes him to the story behind the Candyman. The Candyman is a spoken ghost story about a hook-handed killer who is summoned by repeating his name five times in front of a mirror. Anthony begins to explore the story in his paintings, which brings the past back to life.
Other actors in the film include Teyonah Parris, Hannah Love Jones, Nathan Stewart-Jarrett, Colman Domingo, Tony Todd, Vanessa Estelle Williams, Rebecca Spence, Cassie Kramer, Kyle Kaminsky, Christiana Clark, Brian King, Torrey Hanson, and Carl Clemons-Hopkins.
