‘Wallace and Gromit’s’ Paltry Payout

Wallace and Gromit creators Aardman Animations have received an insurance payout of less than $1.7 million to cover the valuable clay figures lost in the blaze that destroyed their warehouse last year.

In the fire at their warehouse in Bristol, England, the animators lost, among other characters, much-loved plasticine double act Wallace and Gromit from Oscar-winning movies including Curse of the Were-Rabbit.

And although Aardman insist some of their creations were worth $170,000 each, insurance company Norwich Union valued Wallace at $6,800 and faithful pooch Gromit at a mere $3,400.

An insider says, “Many at Aardman feel they haven’t been paid out anything like what they should be.

“Some Wallace and Gromits destroyed were originals. They could fetch £100,000 each on eBay.”
