Anyone who’s been on the Internet recently knows that Jonah Hill and Miles Teller star in the upcoming film War Dogs, but it was originally cast a bit differently. Did you know James Corden and Shia LaBeouf actually almost held the leading roles?

In an interview on The Late Late Show, James Corden interviewed War Dogs director Todd Phillips and actor Bradley Cooper. Phillips and Corden shared some stories about their past working together on the film when Shia LaBeouf was jailed during a Broadway showing of Cabaret. Bradley Cooper got a hilarious earful.

“I think he forgot he was in the theater,” Corden said of LaBeouf. “I got a message, ‘I don’t know if it’s going to happen tomorrow. Shia LaBeouf is in jail.'”

Apparently, fate was on Corden’s side and LaBeouf was released in time to make the audition. After seeing actual TV footage of LaBeouf heading to the hotel, Corden rushed to audition with him. The audition is brilliant — LaBeouf is in a ripped up shirt that he was wearing when he got arrested. He’s completely disheveled and wearing sunglasses with shoe laces on his face.

LeBeouf obviously has a great sense of humor and gave Corden permission to air the audition on The Late Late Show. Phillips wonderfully gives excuses for LaBeouf’s appearance, and we should note, we definitely think he’s still weirdly adorable.

“I just want to preface it that Shia came straight from jail,” said Phillips. “So, he does look a little bit draggled.”
