In the purge franchise, for one night a year, all crime, even murder, is legal. It’s done for people to calm down and get all of their anger out.
In the first The Purge a family barricaded themselves inside their house to protect them from those deciding to purge. In the second, The Purge: Anarchy, Sergeant Leo Barnes (Frank Grillo) decides to take part in the Purge, only to have to save others as they fight through the night. Now we have the third film in the series, ‘The Purge: Election Year’.
It’s been 2 years since ‘The Purge: Anarchy’ and Leo has found himself as the head of security for Senator Charlie Roan (Elizabeth Mitchell). Senator Roan wants to run for President and finally stop the Purge and unfortunately for her, those that take part in the event don’t like this idea. The Senator’s bodyguards betray them and Leo finds himself alone having to save Senator Roan for the night of purging.
The Purge: Election Year comes out on July 1, 2016, appropriately in time for the July 4 weekend.
