Welcome To The Jungle: See Alexander Skarsgård’s First Pics From ‘The Legend of Tarzan’

We fell in love with Alexander Skarsgård as Vampire King Eric Northman on HBO’s True Blood so we know that he has no problem getting a bit savage. Though True Blood wrapped last year, Skarsgård’s new role in Warner Bros. The Legend of Tarzan looks like its going to give us everything that we’ve been missing. The film, which is set to release July 1, 2016, will be directed by David Yates (of Harry Potter fame), and puts a spin on the traditional story. Instead of encountering Tarzan in the jungle, the film will open with him living with his wife Jane (played by Margot Robbie) in Victorian era London. Skarsgård chatted with USA Today about the film stating that, “It’s almost the opposite of the classic tale, where it’s about taming the beast. This is about a man who’s holding back and slowly as you peel off the layers, he reverts back to a more animalistic state and lets that side of his personality out.”

David Yates also put a modern 21st century spin on Robbie’s Jane. He told USA Today that Jane is, “in no way a passive partner to Tarzan. She’s a really strong, assertive, beautifully knowledgeable, very sexy modern woman who can more than look after herself.” Actors Djimon Hounsou, Samuel L. Jackson, and Christoph Waltz will also star in The Legend of Tarzan.
